E-Mail Scams: Consumer Alert
First State Bank customers should be aware of multiple e-mail
based scams (called phishing) attempting to collect private
account information from them. These emails fraudulently state
that the customer's account has been deactivated and must be
updated. These e-mails instruct the customer to re-activate
the account by clicking on a provided link. The links direct
the recipient to a non-First State Bank website site to obtain
the customer's account information. You will be asked to provide
account numbers, password, social security numbers, and other
confidential information. First State Bank does not solicit
sensitive, private information from customers through unsecured
e-mails. Customers who receive these types of e-mails should
not follow any of the instructions in the e-mail. Do not click
on the link. If customers follow these steps, their accounts
are not in jeopardy of being compromised. At First State Bank
protecting your privacy and the security of your information
is very important to us. If you have any concerns about the
legitimacy of an e-mail message that appears to be from your
bank, please contact Shelby Clark at (434) 797-3929 or on the
Internet at Customer
Service.
